    This one's for [info]drelmo
Per our discussion last night, The History of Copyright Law.

(Guilds did indeed play a role in it in England.  It didn't occur to me that during that time, a guild couldn't exist without a Royal Charter, so guild law had to be compatible with Crown intent.)

    My Five Dollar Savior
Long-time readers (and let's face it: I haven't added too many new readers lately that I know of) know of my ongoing struggles with migraines and medication management.  Astute readers might note that it's been quite a while since I've complained of running out of meds well before my refill window.

This is all due to a bit of online research and a five buck pill cutter.  I learned that a 50 mg dosage of Imitrex is actually enough for someone in my weight range, but the pills are dispensed in 100 mg.  So a few months back, when I was getting low on stock, I decided an experiment was in order.  I bought a pill cutter and gave it a shot.

Sure enough, it worked just as well as usual.  Except I still had an extra half pill left.

Since then, this has been my standard procedure.  This morning, I picked up my refill.  Nine new pills.  I still had four whole ones left.

Yes, in a perfect world, my insurance would spring for sufficient medication to cover my needs.  But the current scenario still beats this time last year (when I was juggling two different medications in insufficient amounts).

    Oil Change

At rodeo, originally uploaded by Jacked01.

OK, I never really thought about oil prices till I changed the oil on the bike yesterday! We have driven smaller cars now, both Bill and I for the past 7-8 years or so, gas prices have not really impacted us.

I drive a ford focus for work when it rains or when its below 50 degrees, it gets about 37-38 mpg, the bike of course which I drive most days gets like 60+. Bill's Toyota get about about 30. so spending on gas has never really hit us hard.

I paid 27$ for oil yesterday I didn't really think about it till I got home but when it did hit me I was like 'WTF?!?" Our cars have been costing us a bit lately Bill got a camera ticket, insurance and other stuff all popped up at once it kinda hit me hard and now I'm looking for ways to scale down even more.

My doctor stuff is coming to a head tomorrow is my consult with my heart doctor for the results of last weeks tests, and Friday is my last dentist where i ask here how long i can expect all this sensitivity to heat and cold on the two new crowns and the two new filings. THEY SUCK.

A couple of idiotic mems going about the "Fuck me" mem pretty much just reeks of desperation in my book and this damn personality test which i don't think i have the brains to grasp, so i will leave them to others

    Dammit, dammit, dammit.
So, Feist is no longer singing "1234" in my head. I like the song and all, but this is a good thing.

The bad thing? It's been replaced by Fhqwhgads/Everybody to the Limit, a song I haven't heard in probably four or five years.

    Damn you, The Cheat!

Last night's game went quite a bit better from my perspective.  The rogue is a better fit for me, I think.  Laughing, then jumping off things is much more suited to my tastes.

A few more gamerish thoughts follow. )

    So.
--I'm still achy. I'm going to the gym anyway, as I seem to be achy whether or not I go.

--I'm just about done with the olympics.

--Speaking of the olympics, I caught some track and field stuff. Discus throwers and shotputters? Very, very pretty. High jumpers? Wow. Home. Ly. Poor guys.

--It's been a pretty slow week, which is pretty typical around here for August, so we planned a very small get-together to watch Project Runway since they're dressing drag queens tonight, one of which is Varla Jean Merman, who we always see on the streets of P-town. As usual, making plans is a magnet for people to make appointments with me, so I'll be getting home just in time for the show. *sigh* I guess there are worse problems to have. But there was going to be Wii-ing! Boo!

Once  again the sacred, mystical waters of Tampa Bay have saved us from another large storm.
While we were the main target of Fay on monday, something cut her trip NW and pushed her on land around Naples,FL.
Then, she moved NE towards Melbourne dumping a ton of rain & tornadoes all over our neighboring county (Polk County).
Fay is predicted to move out into the Atlantic and then enter Florida again near Jacksonville (too far north from us).
We got nothing but fast moving clouds, some windy weather and a little bit of rain here & there from the few rain bands that broke away from the storm.
No flooding.  No fallen trees.  Nothing.
There's something about the Bay that seems to keep storms away.

    Kitty Olympics
The kitties have been getting a lot of mileage out of the Olympics, particularly since we obtained the big ol' fat recliner from G's folks.  I sink into it when I get home in the afternoon (and usually later in the evening) and all of the kitties can fit on it...together...without touching, if necessary.  The boys don't so much care if they overlap, but The Mango Stella must remain pristine and unscathed, balanced on the very top of the back.

Scratchy gets wound up too, and I'm not sure why...is he feeding off of us hollering occasionally at the screen, laughing or cheering?  Tonight he came running when I said "bad kitty" several times while talking to the dog and assumed the position for kitty spankin'.  The dog has registered her disgust with the complaint department, especially since Scratchy tries to grab her head and make out with her if she gets anywhere near him during spankin' time.  Sooooo twisted, the critters in my house.

And I can't frickin' believe they are broadcasting BMX racing, and not U.S. field hockey!!!!  ARRRRRRRGGGGG!!!!!

    The Ritz
The Ritz is a movie made in 1976. I have never heard of it before but it came up as a suggestion on Netflix so I gave it a shot. It was very entertaining. The story was bad and the acting was bad, although there were some great actors in it. It had Jerry Stiller, Rita Moreno and Treat Williams as well as some great character actors. It was very interesting to see a mainstream movie being set mainly in a gay bath house in New York. The bath house was very interesting. I have never been in one and I am sure that it was very different back then then it would be now. I would be interested to now how well it did when it was released and what the general population thought about it.

    Artwork + GIP

Two more pieces of artwork I got at Pennsic. The first was a commission from a friend of [info]akirashima's, a young budding artist (and very sweet girl) named Amy, who was taking commissions, and after I saw what she'd done for Derek and Lucien I liked it so I figured I'd do my part to support the arts:

    No worries - SFW )

The second was when I discovered Tobias was a budding artist himself and asked him to draw me something. What I got was a reenactment of me and Quincy at the San Diego Zoo when I discovered why I was the king of the white faced whistling ducks (ask if you want the whole story):

    SFW and funny, too )

Plus, you know, GIP. Finally found a winged man graphic I liked for an icon (not that I don't have a ton of winged men pieces to choose from these days). Still need to come up with an art biz icon.

Stay tuned - I bought two more prints that should be arriving by mail soon!

Edited to add: Some of the replies are NSFW. Just so's ya know.

When the Giant in 'Twin Peaks' said "It is happening again," he didn't mean anything this bad.
After lulling me into a false sense of security, she sprang "Mamma Mia!" on me at the last minute. She pointed to the ad in the paper and, because the stroke took away her ability to decipher letters, she just points to ones she wants to know the title of and its content. So she pointed to the one that looked vaguely wedding-y with that blonde girl smiling and being cute. Whatever her name is. Amanda something. From "Big Love."

My first thought was to lie and say, "Oh, that's the ad for '27 Dresses' or 'Made of Honor.'" And as I considered this untruth, my second thought was, "Actually, as much as 'Mamma Mia!' sucks a big donkey dong, it doesn't suck the bigger donkey dong that was 'Made of Honor' or the biggest deadest donkey dong of all time that was '27 Dresses'."

In fact, if you can focus your vision and only watch Meryl Streep you can have a not hideous time at that hideous movie. Like if they gave powerlifting medals to actors she would get one. And yeah, yeah, if you loved this movie then whatever, knock yourself out, be happy watching it, I'm not judging you or your taste or anything. But I thought, for a moment, that the universe hated me this afternoon. And am I wrong or is the guy that winds as Colin Firth's nameless boyfriend at the end of the movie the same man from the "Call On Me" video?

So then I said, "Yeah that's 'Mamma Mia!' The ABBA musical. It's got Meryl Streep.

"MUH MUH MUH MUH MUH MUH MUH MUH!" [Translation: "Suffer, Dave White."]

Before the movie we ate some lunch and went to Lane Bryant to find some fresh gear, which is an outing I think I need to save and share in my "Project Runway" recap later this week. Then we saw the movie. Then the sound in the theater was all jacked up and we got two free passes. Not that anyone but me noticed since the audience was me and 20 old ladies.

Aside from a 5 minute rain shower at 5 pm, the day has been rather uneventful.

The Tampa Bay area appears to have avoided the storm today.

Some of the projections have the storm turning back this way. We shall see what happens.

    people are weird
On b411, cute-ish guy vacationing nearby says hello. We chat for a bit, maybe 5 back and forths, and I ask him what he does for a living. He says "It's too soon for that I don't feel comfortable sharing that yet."

Yikes! I mean, I can see someone saying "I do __ but it's boring" but not that their job is some big secret. So, I told him I thought that was kind of weird, and that was the end of the conversation.

Today I summoned the emotional energy to go outlet shopping. It's a semi-religion here.

However, I did pretty well. Yay Casual Male outlets.

They had an underarmour outlet. I tried on one of their shirts.

Some bears/big guys look really hot in form fitting spandex/rubber.

I am not one of them.

I'm taking my mom and sister to see Wall-E tonight. I think seeing a first run movie 3 times in the theatre is a first for me.
